activity and for their strong interest and motivation.
1. Introduction
Mandela has been the
mirror for all African nations because of his daily fights against racism,
xenophobia and inequality. He is now the source of inspiration of all people
especially the youth pretending to be good leaders. He could have achieved 100
years old if he were still alive but for us leaders, he is still alive in our
bones, our hearts and in our cells.
2. Objectives:
For this day, we couldn’t
stay mute. Reason why we showed to Goma youth how important Mandela was through
this activity which assigned the following objectives:
- Help young people to
become effective by applying the seven habits of highly effective people;
- Raise in the youth the
envy and desire of being good leaders in the future by adapting their behavior
to Mandela’s,
- Bring Goma’s youth to
have discussions on how to participate in peace building and conflicts
resolution since we are living in the most unsecured province in DRCongo;

Activities
a)
Who is Mandela
In this part, we took
time to explain to the youth a short biography of Mandela, his values and
qualities, but also his leadership skills and talents.
We tried to show them
that no one has suffered like Mandela but after his 27 years in jail, he became
a president. Is it the way to encourage them despite what they are going
through, they should keep on struggling for the sake of their community.
b) The Seven Habits
Being the secret for a peaceful community, we
took time to explain the seven habits to the youth and how they should apply
them in their community. Their commitment to applying these habits in their
daily life was a great success for us. They decided to network for a successful
future.
c) Peace building
We live in a
multicultural society where conflicts are still on top. So, for this occasion,
we helped the youth to vote for a non-violent community, to adopt several ways
of solving conflicts. Therefore, young boys and girls were able to give causes
of conflicts and the eventual solutions to conflicts.
d) Outputs
At the end of the
following activity, 76 active participants took part and showed their strong
interest in the Young African Leaders Initiative.

On these photos, you can see how hooked our
participants were while explaining Mandela’s values. We couldn’t also forget to brush up about
OBAMA, the greatest youth motivator and supporter.
Conclusion
This conclusion is
composed of two main parts:
- Encountered difficulties
The major difficulty
we had was to have the room where we should hold our activities. We pleaded and
finally we had the thumbs up of the Maison des Jeunes Chaplain. Secondly we had
difficulties with materials such as: sounding system, flyers and YALI banner,…
- Recommendations
We would like an
equipped American corner in Goma so as to sort out the following difficulties
in the next activities.
